Prasadh Michael Rao, producer at KiniTV, passed away yesterday at the age of 34. He leaves behind his father, Michael Baboo Rao, and his sister, Priyanka.
Prasadh began his career at Malaysiakini in 2010 as a content editor. In 2012, he transitioned to the role of social media editor. By 2013, he joined KiniTV as a broadcast journalist, and in 2018, he was promoted to news producer. His work at KiniTV included anchoring two programmes, through which he made a significant impact on journalism and social conciousness in Malaysia.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil expressed his condolences, saying, “My condolences to his family members and friends at Malaysiakini” on the social media platform X.
Prasadh’s wake will be held at 92, Lorong Lima, Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur, starting from 4 p.m. today until 1 p.m. tomorrow. The funeral mass is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Jalan Peel, Kuala Lumpur. The final rites will follow at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall crematorium in Cheras at 3.30 p.m.
Prasadh’s untimely death is a significant loss to the journalistic community and media landscape of Malaysia, leaving a void in the hearts of his colleagues and the Malaysian public that had followed his work.
