Many youths are collaboratively creating high-quality short films with their friends, handling everything from funding and editing to acting and composing. Recognizing this burgeoning talent, Astro offers a fantastic opportunity for these filmmakers to showcase their skills to a broader audience. The Ulagam Short Film Contest, jointly organized by Astro Vaanavil (Channel 201) and Astro Ulagam, returns with a Deepavali theme. Aspiring Malaysian filmmakers are encouraged to submit their creative projects by 15 July 2024 for a chance to win impressive cash prizes and the opportunity to produce a telemovie. To participate, contestants need to:
o Create an original 20-minute Deepavali-themed Tamil short film.
o Create a film poster for their short film.
o Complete the contest entry form and submit their short film and poster HERE.
A panel of judges will determine ten winners of the competition based on the following criteria: originality, creativity, acting, cinematography, editing, script, and screenplay.
Winners will take home the following cash prizes:
o 1st place winner: RM10,000 and a valuable opportunity to produce a telemovie which will premiere on Astro
o 2nd place winner: RM8,000
o 3rd place winner: RM6,000
o Seven consolation prize winners: RM3,000
