K-town Clan, a respected hip-hop trio made up of Big Bo, Roshan Jamrock, and Dra-Vid, is in charge of this artistic endeavor. K-town Clan has been a major player in the Malaysian music scene since its formation in the early 2000s, releasing hits that reach millions of listeners across the country.
Director Vinoth Raj Pillai, the mastermind of the “Makeya Badego” music video, adds a wealth of knowledge and passion to the project. Vinoth’s journey, which involved leaving an engineering career to follow his genuine passion as a visual storyteller, is reminiscent of K-town Clan’s philosophy of progression and growth. In the field of destination wedding photography, he is well-known for his attention to detail and talent for crafting compelling stories.
Vinoth opened up about the creative process behind “Makeya Badego” in a candid conversation.Vinoth reflected on his experience with K-town Clan, highlighting how he and the group have changed over time, leading to this innovative music video. Vinoth carefully selected each frame, drawing inspiration from their mutual development to create a story that captures the spirit of K-town Clan’s music.
“K-town Clan’s music video drew inspiration from our common growth experience. I directed their video for “Give Em The Ughh” as a hobbyist a decade ago.K-town Clan and I have changed throughout time, both aesthetically and musically. This music video is the result of all of that development. As soon as they shared the song with me, I realized it would be the ideal project to reflect our common growth as a group of small-town boys who have honed our art and to emphasize the depths of their music and my love of visual storytelling.”
The meticulous selection of locations, each picked to improve the storytelling experience, is essential to the video’s success. Every setting has a function in communicating the story arc of the video, from vivid settings that heighten the song’s excitement to neutral backgrounds that draw attention to the performers. Assistant directors Naden and Shakty helped Vinoth maintain a smooth filming procedure so that the artists could stand out against their surroundings.
“I chose a neutral background for the chorus to keep the spotlight on K-town Clan, the dancers, and the urumi players. The locations were carefully chosen to enhance the narrative and visual impact, complementing the performers and overall tone of the film. In order to offer the artists a frame of reference, my assistant directors Naden and Shakty rehearsed the scenes at these locations, which helped the shoot day go smoothly. We are grateful to Marinero and Lim Kok Wing University for allowing us to use their spaces for creation,” he explained.
At “Makeya Badego,” teamwork is vital, with each member contributing their special touch to the project. From Hervena’s dynamic dancing to the fascinating performances by PKVMK Urumi players, each aspect adds to the watching experience, resulting in a tapestry of music and pictures that captivates the audience.
“Hervena’s choreography for the dancers enriched the music, while the PKVMK Urumi players stipulated visual and audio elements. Yogi B, Manjit, and Yunohoo contributed, giving the lyrics even more depth. To put it briefly, artists collaborated to create art.”
Behind-the-scenes, spontaneous and creative moments added even more value to the production, giving the finished result more depth through group projects and spontaneous sequences. Every obstacle was greeted with excitement and determination, from Yogi B’s photo chance to the demanding 12-hour editing process, producing a video that connects with audiences worldwide.
“One interesting behind-the-scenes moment was when Yogi B asked if he could take a photo with the three of the boys. Initially, he was only supposed to appear for Roshan’s line, but this sparked a light bulb moment. We ended up recording the sewing room scene, which altered a couple of other scenes and added more depth to the video.”
Vinoth expressed his joy regarding the enthusiastic reception the video garnered, highlighting its achievement of 100k views on YouTube within a mere 10 days. He emphasized the entertainment value of K-town Clan’s music and how the visuals complemented the narrative. The team is delighted that audiences are connecting with the video, and they find the overwhelmingly positive response immensely gratifying. Vinoth sees this achievement as a testament to the dedication and creativity of all involved, appreciating the recognition of their collective efforts.
