Kamal Haasan’s upcoming film “Indian 2,” featuring his iconic character Senapathy, is scheduled for release on July 12, 2024. Ahead of its highly anticipated debut, an exciting trailer has been released by the filmmakers. Currently, the production team and cast members are actively promoting the movie across different countries. Recently, Kamal Haasan, Siddharth, and SJ Suryah visited Malaysia as part of their promotional tour for the film.
In a recent conversation, director Shankar addressed fan questions about the possibility of creating a cinematic universe. During an interview with News 18, Shankar disclosed that he had envisioned a cinematic universe combining the iconic characters from his blockbuster films, but unfortunately, his idea did not receive any support.
The filmmaker revealed that while working on the Rajinikanth-starrer “Enthiran” in 2008, he suddenly conceived the idea of creating a cinematic universe. This universe would feature characters from “Indian,” “Nayak: The Real Hero,” and “Sivaji: The Boss.”
However, when he proposed the idea to his assistant directors, they were taken aback, thinking it was a foolish concept. This reaction made Shankar feel that it wouldn’t work. He later shared the idea with some senior technicians on set. Although they didn’t outright reject it, they also didn’t encourage him to pursue it. Shankar believes that everyone thought merging three different characters from three separate films into a new film was a crazy idea.
The director mentioned that a few years later, he watched “Avengers” from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and began advising his assistant directors to pitch any idea they had quickly, or someone else might bring it to life soon. He stressed that many creative minds are out there, constantly thinking of new concepts, so it’s crucial to act swiftly on every unique idea.
Shankar’s visionary idea of a cinematic universe, although initially met with skepticism, showcases his creativity and ambitious aspirations in filmmaking many years ago. As the director continues to push the boundaries of Indian cinema with his innovative concepts, the excitement surrounding his work remains palpable. His foresight and determination to pursue unique ideas serve as an inspiration to filmmakers and fans alike, proving that bold creativity can pave the way for groundbreaking cinematic experiences.
