‘Thillana Mohanambal’, A Classical Love Affair Musical That Is Coming To You; Live In June!

The Tanjai Kamalaa Indira Dance School, established in 1966, is one of the pioneers of Indian classical dance in Malaysia. The school is now in operation for over 53 years.  The school mainly teaches the ancient form of dance, Bharathanatyam.

Kannagi: The Wrath of a Chaste Woman won the BOH Cameronian Award 2014 – ‘Audience Choice Award’.  The play was staged at 7 locations throughout Malaysia, became an audience favourite thus winning the award in 2014.

The Malaysia Book of Records entitles TKI as the ‘Longest Operating Dance Training School in Malaysia’. This ranks TKI as a national record-holder and places it amongst the ‘Best of the Nation’ category.
The Tanjai Kamalaa Indira Dance School in collaboration with NLFCS Tan Sri K.R. Soma Arts & Cultural Foundation is back again with another mega-production.
TKI staging their 22nd thematic mega-production, entitled ‘Thillana Mohanambal’ (The Dance Queen Mohanambal) on June 22nd & 23rd at PJ Civic Centre.
The 21 members of the main cast will be backed by another 40 dancers who will also be playing multiple roles in the dance drama. All the performers ranging from the age of 4 till 66 are well-trained dancers of Tanjai Kamalaa Indira Dance School, who are disciples of Mrs.Indira Manikam.
With decades of history in the production of dance dramas, the school is the first to take up this monumental task of bringing to live stage this unique musical drama film that was originally written as a serial story by the prolific writer Kothamangalam Subbu and featured in the copies of ‘Ananda Vikatan’ a weekly in the years of 1957 to 1958.
