S. Suresh Prepares to Shine at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Aims For Gold

Former world para archery champion S. Suresh is set to compete in the upcoming 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. The Kedah-born archer, who made his Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020, is optimistic that the hot weather predicted for Paris will play to his advantage this time around.

S. Suresh’s Optimism for Paris

During the launch ceremony of the “50 Days Countdown to Paris 2024 Paralympic Games”, S. Suresh expressed confidence in his ability to perform well under the anticipated sweltering conditions. He said,

When the going gets hot, the cool get going,” highlighting his readiness to tackle the heat and aim for a podium finish. Reflecting on his past experiences, Suresh added, “This time I think I can go for a medal… if I have the fortune, I can bring gold (back)

At Tokyo 2020, Suresh faced an early elimination, losing to Russian Paralympic Committee representative Bato Tsydendorzhiev 2-6 in the 1/16 elimination stage. Despite this setback, he remains determined to improve his performance in Paris.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 8, promising a grand event that celebrates athletic prowess and resilience. This year, the games will be held at the historic Esplanade des Invalides, with competitors from around the globe, including strong contenders from France, Thailand, Indonesia, and India.

International media reports have indicated that summer temperatures in Paris are expected to be higher than usual, ranging from 25 to 42 degrees Celsius. While this raises concerns about health risks such as cramps, fatigue, and heatstroke, Suresh believes that the heat could be an equalizer, making the competition more balanced.

S. Suresh: A Champion’s Journey

S. Suresh, has been a prominent figure in para archery, securing his reputation as a fierce competitor. He gained international acclaim by winning the 2019 World Para Archery Championships in the men’s recurve category. Suresh has been diligently preparing for the Paris Paralympics, focusing on improving his mental endurance and accuracy in shooting.

In a recent statement, Suresh remarked,

Opportunities are quite equal, but only athletes who have strong mental endurance and can control fear can advance further.

His determination and resilience have made him a symbol of inspiration for many aspiring athletes.
