An Indian passenger train derailed and overturned many of its cars on Thursday (Jul 18), killing at least two people and injuring 24 others, while rescue and relief efforts ongoing.

According to Indian Railways spokesman Pankaj Kumar Singh, “two people have died,” said AFP.
Naveen Kumar, the state relief commissioner of Uttar Pradesh, said AFP that three of the additional 35 injuries were serious.
He went on to say that no one was still trapped inside the train and that rescue efforts had concluded.According to broadcaster NDTV, at least four carriages had overturned at the accident scene in the Gonda district.
In footage that ran on the network, people could be seen milling around the debris as others stood on a derailing compartment that had tumbled onto its side.
Yogi Adityanath, the state chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, wrote on social media platform X, “The train accident in Gonda district is extremely sad.”
“District administration officials have been directed to carry out relief and rescue operations on a war footing and to take the injured to the hospital,” he stated.
“I pray to Lord Ram for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
The chief medical superintendent of Gonda District Hospital, Anil Kumar Tiwari, informed AFP that a medical team had been sent immediately to the scene of the tragedy.
