“Raayan” was released on July 26, 2024. This film is Dhanush’s second directorial venture and notably marks his 50th movie. Dhanush not only directed but also played the lead role in the film. The music was composed by AR Rahman, and the film was produced by Sun Pictures. “Raayan” features an ensemble cast including Dushara Vijayan, Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Selvaraghavan, SJ Suryah, and many others. The movie is receiving positive reviews from all quarters.

“Raayan” revolves around the story of four siblings surviving without their parents and how their paths and fates unfold in the future. The film highlights the elder brother’s struggle to raise his siblings and the deep love and affection he has for them. Dhanush portrays the character Kaathavaraayan, also known as Raayan. Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, and Dushara Vijayan play the roles of Dhanush’s siblings.

Dhanush’s Directorial Mastery Shines in “Raayan”

Dhanush has achieved a significant milestone with his 50th film, “Raayan.” He has further solidified his reputation, not just as one of the leading actors in the industry, but now as a powerful director. From the very beginning, with each poster and trailer, it was clear that “Raayan” would be a violence-based film, earning it an ‘A’ certificate, suitable only for adults. In “Raayan,” Dhanush takes the time to establish every character in the first half. He meticulously crafts an arc for each character, allowing them to develop as the story progresses. This careful characterization makes every action relatable and gives weight to each role. Despite being the lead actor and directing his milestone 50th film, Dhanush shares equal screen space and importance with every character. Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Dushara Vijayan, and most notably Selvaraghavan, all shine in their roles.

One noteworthy aspect is that Dhanush does not give himself a grand opening scene, showcasing his humility as an actor and fairness as a director. This balanced approach ensures that the film is a collective effort, highlighting the strengths of the entire cast. Dhanush’s dedication to character development and his willingness to share the spotlight demonstrate his maturity and growth as a filmmaker.

Most of the scenes in “Raayan” are set against a dark backdrop and often feature red hues, symbolizing violence and anger. Dhanush showcases the multifaceted talents of Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, and Dushara Vijayan, presenting them in a different light in this film. Dushara’s character, in particular, is mind-blowing. Through her role, Dhanush conveys the message that every woman should possess the bravery to fight against all challenges. Dhanush meticulously crafted each dialogue to complement the visuals perfectly, showcasing his prowess as a director in “Raayan.” His efforts have earned him widespread acclaim, including praise from Raghava Lawrence, who took to social media to commend Dhanush. Lawrence declared that the Kollywood industry now boasts a director of international caliber in Dhanush.

AR Rahman’s Stellar Score Elevates “Raayan”

AR Rahman, renowned for his exceptional musical contributions, has once again created a masterpiece for “Raayan.” The Isai Puyal’s compositions and background score significantly enhance the emotional impact of each scene, adding depth and resonance to the film. Every song in the soundtrack is impressive, with “Adangatha Asuran” standing out as a highlight. This track features music by Rahman, lyrics by Dhanush, and vocals by both artists. It is currently a favorite on many playlists and trending on social media, blending powerful mass tunes with soulful, heart-wrenching elements.
