Stomach problems can ruin your whole day, treat your tummy right.

Imagine you’re eating some delicious home-cooked food prepared by your amma, and you’re enjoying the burst of flavours in your mouth. But, just as you’re about halfway through your meal, your stomach begins to grumble that you’re full. You gradually feel some discomfort in your upper abdomen, and by the end of the day, you have a burning sensation in your heart.

Isn’t it frustrating while having your favourite food?

I’m not a medical expert, but I fundamentally believe this was caused by indigestion. See, nowadays, indigestion has become a common problem, particularly among working adults, who tend to eat a lot of outside food that may contain too much fat or spiciness, consume a lot of caffeine, and sometimes even eat too quickly.

But don’t worry, we’ve come up with a few natural home remedies to help you treat this indigestion. However, if you believe your condition is worsening, we recommend that you see a doctor.

Lemon and honey

One of the most effective home remedies for indigestion is lemon and hot water with honey. 1 glass of warm water with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, then stir in 1 teaspoon of honey. Mix thoroughly and drink after each meal. This is one of the well-known remedies that the elderly are familiar with.

Ginger and honey

The best drink for acid reflux is a ginger-honey combination. Sip a glass of warm water with some grated ginger and a teaspoon of honey. To alleviate indigestion, ginger can be added to other types of tea.

Apple cider vinegar

Nowadays, this method is used to aid in weight loss, but it also aids in indigestion by increasing your body’s production of stomach acid. For immediate relief, mix one to two teaspoons of raw, unpasteurised apple cider vinegar into a cup of water and drink. Alternatively, drink the mixture 30 minutes before eating to prevent indigestion.

Fennel seed

I’m pretty sure this is something you’d find in an Indian household. Simply add 1/2 teaspoon crushed fennel seed to a cup of water and bring to a boil for 10 minutes before drinking. This may taste slightly sweet and has a distinct licorice flavour, so alternatively, you can also chew the fennel seeds after a meal.

Basil leaves (Tulsi)

Apart from being a sacred plant in Hinduism, these holy tulsi leaves provide immediate relief for acidity by stimulating the stomach to produce, which aids in the relief of heartburn. You can chew 3-4 leaves or boil a cup of water with a few basil leaves and drink it while it’s hot, just like the previous fennel seed.

All of the methods listed above will come in handy and provide a quick fix for you on the go; however, we, once again, remind you to consult a doctor for a better solution. Other long-term treatments for stomach problems include staying hydrated and chewing your food slowly and properly for a better digestive system.

Let us know in the comments section below if you’ve tried any of the above remedies and how it works for you.
