Malaysian Mixed Martial Art (MMA) fighter, Agilan Thani, has gained his ninth victory in ONE Championship. The 23 year-old Sentul-born fighter had a remarkable comeback at the “ONE: Legendary Quest” after facing 3 loses and suffering from injuries and depression last season.
Agilan fought the legendary Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama in a welterweight MMA match in Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China. In the first round, the match had to be stopped for 5 minutes when Agilan accidentally kneed Akiyama in the groin. Towards the end of the second round, Agilan was seen slowing down towards the end but he came in victorious and struck hard in the third round. After the three five-minute rounds, the judges decided that Agilan was the winner in an unanimous decision.
Agilan was the only representative from Malaysia at the “ONE: Legendary Quest”. He trains out of Monarchy MMA in Kuala Lumpur under Samir Mrabet, 34, of Brussels, Belgium and visits Team Quest in the United States for his training. At the end of his third round, Agilan pinned Akiyama on the floor till the bell went off. As soon as the match ended, Agilan is seen bowing down to Akiyama in respect and then proceeds to give him a hug. The commentators were heard saying,”That right there is a moment of honour!”.
Congratulations, Agilan Thani! You make us proud.
