Penang community celebrated a grand Pongal celebration bringing together over 2000 visitors from various communities at Batu Uban State, Penang. Featuring 21 bullock carts at the Madani Pongal and cultural festival in the Batu Uban state. The parade was highlighted as it was a 2km long parade with beautifully decorated bullock carts. Organised by the Batu Uban State Assembly Service Centre, it started from Taman Brown to The Gelugor Youth and Sports Complex.

The event was earlier celebrated by Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid and other state leaders.
This standout was given Malaysian Book of Records recognition of Penang for creating the largest wooden pongal pot. The 17 foot (5m) pot made of wood with 200 kilograms of fresh flowers, took three days to complete. The Batu Uban assemblyman A.Kumaresan shared that this achievement is a mark of the state’s dedication to cultural preservation. He also said that Pongal is not a religious festival as commonly said but a cultural celebration by the Indians.
While Pongal is usually celebrated just by us, the event made another huge impact as it was a multicultural spirit that was seen. Malay and Chinese visitors participated in the event as well, reflecting the unity among Malaysia’s diverse society.
