The Malaysian Indian Skills Initiative (MISI) is taking a significant move in empowering Malaysian Indian talent through its Drone Maintenance and Repair Proficiency Programme. This initiative aims to build the industry gap by equipping individuals with high-value skills, creating new opportunities in the drone sector that is rapidly expanding.
The programme has garnered strong participation, highlighting the growing demand for drone training. It also acknowledges the government’s commitment to upskilling Malaysian Indian Talent, ensuring they are prepared for the future and have opportunities in their careers.

An initiative under the Human Resource Ministry (KESUMA) through the Human Resource Corporation (HRD Corp), MISI has successfully trained over 6000 participants in high demand fields such as AI, smart farming and drone technology. With industries like construction, agriculture, and mining using drones into their operations, having certified drone maintenance specialists and operators will have greater access to employment opportunities, career advancement and higher salary.
The five day (40 hours) training, certified by The Institute of Drone Technology (IDT), Australia, provides hands-on experience in drone repair, maintenance and autonomous operations. This ensures participants meet global safety and industry standards. Participants have expressed their appreciation for the programme and it’s potential impact on their careers. One of the trainees, R.Narrendra, 20, highlighted how drone technology is revolutionising various industries, and this certificate gives him a competitive edge in securing a job in the future.

Drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), are transforming business operations by enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving safety. This programme not only trains participants in drone maintenance and repairing but helps them to gain essential knowledge on autonomous drone operation, preparing them to be ahead in the growing technological landscape.
Held recently at Institut Latihan Perindustrian Perai Penang, this programme is part of the initiative aimed at equipping talent with in-demand skills. Upcoming training sessions include Professional Visual Effect (VFX) Makeup Training for Film and Television, IoT for Freelancers and other industry, specifically programmes designed to foster innovation.
MISI’s impact is beyond employment, fostering entrepreneurship, lifelong learning skills and career growth. By empowering people, particularly those with secondary or lower education levels, MISI aligns with its mission to uplift the Malaysian Indian community through skills development and enhanced employment opportunities.
