Honouring Women In The Malaysian Entertainment Industry on International Women’s Day

As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, we take a moment to celebrate the remarkable Indian women who have been in the Malaysian entertainment industry for over a decade, making significant contributions and shaping the industry. From filmmakers to actresses and performers, these women have not only excelled in their fields but have also paved the way for future generations. Their hard work, determination and talent have helped with elevating Malaysian Indian cinema, television and performing arts to greater heights. In this article, we highlight and celebrate outstanding women’s who made us proud with extraordinary achievements.

Dr. Vimala Perumal

Vimala Perumal stands as a beacon of inspiration in the Malaysian Film industry, A director, writer and producer. Her work has consistently broken barriers, shedding light on different kinds of narratives. Involving in feature films like Vilayattu Pasange, Vetti Pasanaga and Vedigundu Pasanga, her contributions have not only elevated Malaysian Tamil Cinema but have also earned numerous prestigious accolades including Silver Awards Internationally, Best Film Awards at Norway Tamil Film Festival, Special Jury Award at 30th Malaysian Film Festival and Gold Award at Prestigious Inventx Creative Exhibition. Dr Vimala Perumal is an inspiration to many women out there. 

Sangeeta Krishnasamy

Sangeeta Krishnasamy is one of Malaysia’s most celebrated actresses, having won multiple awards such as the Best Actress Award at the Malaysian Film Festival for her role in Adiwiraku, Industry Excellence Award by MICA 3rd Edition and Best Actress at IAM Awards. Her versatility and powerful screen presence have built her a household name. In addition to acting, she is passionate about using her platform to raise awareness on social issues. Her career spans across multiple genres, proving her ability to take diverse roles with ease.

Datin Sri Shaila Nair V

Datin Sri Shaila Nair V has contributed immensely to the Malaysian entertainment industry through her roles, as an actress and producer. With a strong background in media production, she has been instrumental in creating impactful films that resonates with audiences. She has worked on various projects, both in television and film, bringing stories to life with her unique perspective. She is known for being a guide for the talents in the next generation of the industry. She is also known for her strong roles in films such as Pulanaivu which made her win the Best Actor Female Diaspora at The Norway Tamil Film Festival Awards 2020.

Shalini Balasundaram

Shalini Balasundaram is a Director, Actress, Producer and a Entrepreneur. She has been a fan favorite both in front of and behind the camera. As a director, she has brought many engaging and thought-provoking stories to life. Even as an actress, she has captivated audiences with her performances. Her ability to balance multiple roles in the industry makes her an inspiring figure for many aspiring filmmakers and actors. Notably she has also won The Best Screenplay Tamil Diaspora at the Norway Tamil Film Festival Awards 2020 for her work on Pulanaivu.
