Many students from non-Tamil schools or private preschools struggle with reading and writing Tamil when they transition to Tamil schools. This language barrier poses a challenge for young learners, making it essential to introduce effective and engaging methods to help them grasp the language with ease.

To support students struggling with Tamil, a new online platform called “Tamil in 30 Days” was launched on March 8th. Designed to make learning Tamil easier and more accessible, the platform offers a structured approach to help students develop reading and writing skills effectively within a short timeframe.

Dr. Kasthuri Ramalingam, the founder of the platform, stated that research on enabling students to master Tamil easily and effectively within 30 days has been underway since 2016. She further mentioned that when the program was implemented in her own school, there was a significant improvement among the students, and it also received strong support from parents.

Kasthuri, who is also a teacher at SJKT Masai, stated that the initiative to create this online platform was inspired by the goal of leveraging technology to make the program accessible to students across the country. “Over a span of 30 days, students will learn Tamil through a unique game each day. While their main focus will be on playing, they will simultaneously and unconsciously absorb the Tamil language. By the end of the program, without even realizing it, they will have mastered their mother tongue in a simple and effective manner,” she explained.

She also provided insights into the content of the online platform. “The 30-day lessons will be presented in video format, featuring children’s songs, step-by-step instructions on writing Tamil letters accurately, and techniques for reading with correct pronunciation and fluency,” she explained.

She stated that each lesson is accompanied by exercises available in PDF format, allowing teachers to download and distribute them to students for practice. Furthermore, Dr. Kasthuri emphasized that the platform includes 30 structured daily lesson plans designed to support and enhance teachers’ instructional methods.

She explained that the platform features online stories along with related questions, specifically designed to evaluate students’ reading and writing skills upon completing the 30-day program.

With its structured and engaging approach, “Tamil in 30 Days” aims to bridge the language gap for students transitioning into Tamil schools. By integrating games, interactive videos, and well-planned exercises, the platform provides an innovative and enjoyable learning experience.

As technology continues to play a crucial role in education, this initiative serves as a valuable tool for both students and teachers, ensuring that young learners can develop a strong foundation in Tamil with ease. With the overwhelming support from parents and educators, the platform is set to make a lasting impact on Tamil language learning nationwide.
