Kamal Haasan first collaborated with renowned director Shankar in 1996 for the film Indian, which became a groundbreaking success across India. Praised for its compelling narrative and stellar performances, the film left a lasting impact on Indian cinema. Nearly 28 years later, the much-anticipated sequel, Indian 2, finally hit the screens, carrying immense expectations. However, despite the hype, the film received a lukewarm response, with audiences expressing mixed reactions. Social media buzzed with memes highlighting its flaws, and unfortunately, Indian 2 struggled to make a significant mark at the box office.
Indian 2 received mixed reviews upon its release, leaving fans disappointed with the highly anticipated project. The film’s underwhelming reception resulted in substantial financial losses for its producers. Interestingly, while working on Indian 2, director Shankar also filmed a significant portion of Indian 3 simultaneously. However, only one song sequence remains to be completed for the third installment, and its production is expected to cost over Rs 20 crore.

Furthermore, Shankar has reportedly submitted a detailed invoice for his outstanding remuneration, adding to the project’s financial burden. Amid ongoing financial challenges, the production house has allegedly decided to pull out of Indian 3.
This unforeseen situation has cast doubt on the completion and release of the film. Addressing financial issues, settling Shankar’s pending dues, and filming the remaining portions are expected to cause significant delays. According to a report from Asianet Tamil, financial complications may lead to the indefinite postponement of Indian 3. However, the production team has yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
Indian 3 features Kamal Haasan and Kajal Aggarwal in key roles. Notably, during the promotions of Indian 2, Kamal Haasan shared that he personally found the third installment more engaging than its predecessor. However, with ongoing financial challenges, the fate of Indian 3 hangs in the balance, leaving fans uncertain about whether the much-anticipated sequel will ever see the light of day.
