SJKT Batu Caves has been steadfast in its commitment to nurturing cultural awareness among its students. Through consistent and heartfelt efforts, the school aims to instill in young minds a deep understanding of the significance of the Tamil calendar months and the unique cultural richness of Chithirai Puthandu.

In continuation of these efforts, the Chithirai Puthandu celebration was held yesterday at the school with great enthusiasm, featuring a variety of cultural performances to mark the beginning of the Vishuvavasu year.

As the celebration commenced, the students extended a heartfelt welcome to the headmaster and fellow teachers, their faces beaming with joy. The atmosphere was vibrant and festive, brought to life by graceful performances of mayilattam (peacock dance) and the rhythmic movements of karagattam. These traditional art forms not only set the tone for the event but also reflected the rich cultural heritage being celebrated.

In her keynote address, the school’s headmistress, Saraswathy Sengalrayan, eloquently articulated the purpose and deeper significance behind the celebration of the New Year.

Subsequently, the students beautifully showcased their individual talents through captivating performances in dance, music, and drama. Each performance not only highlighted their artistic skills but also deeply reflected the rich cultural traditions, bringing the essence of the celebration to life. These displays of creativity and expression emphasized the importance of preserving and honoring cultural heritage.

After a celebration that lasted about an hour, the students resumed their regular learning and teaching activities. The school placed equal emphasis on both cultural celebrations and education, recognizing the importance of nurturing well-rounded individuals.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that a free eye check-up was conducted this morning for 200 Standard Two students, organized by the Sathya Sai Baba Ampang branch. This initiative aimed to promote the importance of eye health and early detection of vision issues among young children.

The Chithirai Puthandu celebration at SJKT Batu Caves not only highlighted the school’s dedication to preserving and promoting cultural traditions but also provided a meaningful opportunity for students to engage with their heritage. This event was a beautiful testament to the school’s continuous efforts in fostering both cultural and academic growth in its students.
