Superstar Rajinikanth recently watched Retro, the latest film directed by Karthik Subbaraj and starring Suriya, and was full of praise for the movie. Sharing his excitement on X (formerly Twitter), Karthik Subbaraj—who previously collaborated with Rajinikanth on Petta—expressed his joy, revealing that the legendary actor thoroughly enjoyed the film.
He also shared his exact words: “What an effort by whole team…. Suriya performance Super…. Last 40 minutes of the film Superb… Laughter touch is Fantastic….God bless.” The words made him ecstatic as he responded to it on the post by saying, “I am flying now…..Love you Thalaivaaa.” He also shared a poster that said ‘Johnny praises Paari’.

Earlier, Jigarthanda director Karthik Subbaraj took to social media to express his heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming response to Retro. He shared that he was genuinely touched by the immense love and support pouring in from fans and the public, describing it as a hopeful sign of exciting new beginnings. Released on May 1, the film received a mix of positive and varied reactions from audiences and managed to gross over ₹46 crore globally within its first two days.
Retro is a joint production by Suriya and Jyotika’s 2D Entertainment and Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Films. The film features Pooja Hegde in the lead female role and boasts a strong ensemble cast that includes Jayaram, Joju George, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Karunakaran, Tamizh, Prem Kumar, Ramachandran Durairaj, Sandeep Raj, Murugavel, and Remya Suresh, among others.
The film’s music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, while the technical team includes Shreyaas Krishna as the cinematographer and Shafique Mohamed as the editor. Jackson has handled the art direction, Kecha Khamphakdee choreographed the action sequences, and Praveen Raja served as the costume designer.
