The Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA) has approved 45 proposals in the first phase of the 2025 Socioeconomic Development Grant (PPSMI), aimed at supporting the advancement of the Malaysian Indian community.
The applications are currently undergoing the approval process at the Prime Minister’s Office. According to MITRA Special Task Force Committee Chairman, P. Prabakaran, the 45 approved proposals—amounting to a total of RM40 million—are focused on initiatives designed to directly improve the socioeconomic well-being of the Indian community.

Speaking at a press conference on the status of PPSMI 2025, he revealed that MITRA received more than 1,332 applications for the grant between December 2, 2024, and January 5, 2025. Of these, 1,073 were rejected for not meeting the required criteria, while the remaining applications are still being reviewed for consideration in the upcoming phases of approval.
Prabakaran explained that the rejections were due to several factors, including incomplete application forms, individuals submitting multiple applications through different organisations, applicants who were declared bankrupt, and organisations that lacked the capability or relevant experience to execute the proposed programmes.
He expressed MITRA’s appreciation for the patience and cooperation shown by all applicants, noting that the evaluation process involves three thorough stages, carried out transparently and with utmost integrity. He added that the final results of the PPSMI applications are expected to be announced by June 30 at the latest.
The implementation of the 2025 Socioeconomic Development Grant (PPSMI) marks a significant step forward in MITRA’s ongoing efforts to uplift the Malaysian Indian community. With a focus on transparency, integrity, and impact-driven initiatives, the grant aims to ensure that selected programmes bring meaningful and lasting benefits.
