Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar has urged greater involvement from non-Bumiputera communities in the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), highlighting the currently low level of representation. He emphasized that the MAF offers a promising and professional career path, deserving of consideration alongside more conventional professions.

“I encourage members of all communities to consider a career in the MAF. This is where the real challenges begin, and where you will truly understand what professionalism means,” he said to reporters after the commissioning parade and the presentation of appointment letters to officer cadets at Kem Perdana, Sungai Besi yesterday.

The ceremony was officiated by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, and witnessed the presence of Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Khaled Nordin, along with the heads of the three branches of the armed forces.

General Mohd Nizam stated that a total of 509 officer cadets were officially commissioned as officers in the Malaysian Armed Forces during the event. He noted that the ceremony symbolized formal recognition for the officer cadets who had successfully completed their military training, signifying the start of their duties and responsibilities as junior officers in the armed forces.

He also emphasized that the event reflects the MAF’s dedication to developing military leaders who are professional, disciplined, and uphold strong integrity, all in service of protecting the nation’s sovereignty. Out of the 509 officers newly commissioned, 295 are from the Malaysian Army, 114 from the Royal Malaysian Navy, and 100 from the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) offers a promising career path for individuals from all backgrounds, including the Indian community. With opportunities for professional growth, leadership development, and service to the nation, the MAF provides a bright and secure future. Joining the armed forces not only instills discipline and integrity but also opens doors to a fulfilling and respected profession dedicated to safeguarding Malaysia’s sovereignty.
