Since its inception seven years ago, the Tatchanai Teacher Programme has successfully guided over 800 Indian students through the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM). This impactful mentoring initiative, conducted online, is designed to support Indian students in their academic journey and is spearheaded by the Johor Self-Help Association in collaboration with the Social I-Tenaga Association. With strong backing from Deputy Minister YB Dato’ Sri R. Ramanan, the programme continues to play a vital role in empowering students to achieve academic excellence.

Datuk Anbumani Balan, Senior Private Secretary to the Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, shared that more than 250 of these students have successfully gained admission to public universities.

YB Dato’ Sri R. Ramanan has consistently positioned himself as a leading advocate for education within the Indian community, firmly committed to the principle that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and succeed.

As part of his wider efforts to enhance the socio-economic well-being of Indian Malaysians, he has launched and supported numerous educational initiatives aimed at offering meaningful assistance to students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

This year, through a partnership with Yayasan Bank Rakyat and agencies under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), nearly RM200,000 in educational incentives have been awarded, benefiting over 300 high-achieving students.

Datuk Anbumani made the remarks while officiating the ‘Sathanayalar Santippu’ ceremony held at the Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple, an event that honoured more than 100 outstanding Indian STPM students. The ceremony was a collaborative effort between the two associations and the temple.

Chairman of the Johor Self-Help Association, Krishnasamy Muniandy, highlighted that the programme’s success reflects the impact of community-driven efforts and expressed hope that it would be extended across the country.

The Tatchanai Teacher Programme stands as a shining example of how grassroots initiatives, backed by dedicated leadership and community collaboration, can create meaningful educational opportunities. With hundreds of students already benefiting and many progressing to public universities, the programme continues to inspire academic excellence and uplift the Indian community. As calls grow to expand its reach nationwide, the success of this initiative underscores the transformative power of education when driven by unity, support, and shared vision.
