The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) has launched three major programmes under the Socioeconomic Development Programme for the Indian Community (PPSMI), with a total allocation of RM21.25 million aimed at improving early childhood education, access to dialysis treatment, and policy evaluation for future development.
Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan said the largest portion of the funds, RM10.514 million has been channelled towards the Private Kindergarten Early Education Subsidy Programme. This initiative is set to benefit around 4,700 Indian children by making quality early education more accessible and affordable for families within the community.
Another RM10 million has been allocated to the Dialysis Subsidy Assistance Programme, designed to support 2000 Indian kidney patients in receiving consistent life-saving dialysis treatment. This move is part of MITRA’s ongoing efforts to reduce the financial burden of healthcare on lower-income families.

A further RM736,952.50 is allocated for an impact study on PPSMI initiatives from 2021 to 2023. This study, to be conducted by Universiti Malaya, aims to assess the effectiveness of past MITRA programmes, providing vital insights to shape future policies and strategies for socioeconomic development.
In response to a question by Ramkarpal Singh on fund disbursement delays, Dato Ramanan explained that MITRA has received 1,332 applications between December 2024 and January 2025. Applications for both the Early Childhood Education and Dialysis Subsidy programmes were officially reopened on 26th June 2025. Grants will be distributed in stages to eligible recipients, either directly or through relevant agencies.
Dato Ramanan added that the grant for PPSMI impact study will be disbursed once an agreement is signed with Universiti Malaya in the near future. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that strategic MITRA programmes reach their target groups without delay, in line with the MADANI government’s focus on equitable and inclusive development.
