Malaysia’s run at the London Classic came to an end in the semi finals on Saturday, as both Sivasangari and Eain Yow fell short against higher-ranked opponents.
Defending champion Sivasangari, the world number eight, was unable to repeat her title-winning feat, losing to Egypt’s world number five Amina Orfi in a hard-fought four-game battle. The 68-minute encounter at London’s Alexandra Palace ended 7-11, 7-11, 11-7, 5-11, with Orfi extending her head-to-head advantage to five wins in six meetings.
Sivasangari had previously been stopped by the Egyptian in the quarterfinals of the British Open last June, highlighting Orfi’s growing dominance in their rivalry. On the men’s side, Eain Yow faced a formidable challenge against New Zealand’s world number three Paul Coll. Despite his efforts, the Malaysian went down in straight games 3-11, 5-11, 7-11, ending his campaign at the semifinal stage.
The results mark the conclusion of Malaysia’s challenge at the PSA World Tour Gold event, with both players showing glimpses of brilliance but ultimately falling short against two of the world’s top-ranked stars.
