The Selangor government will extend assistance to 44 families in Kampung Indian Settlement, Gombak, who are required to vacate their homes to pave the way for a more systematic and organised development of the area.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the aid is aimed at easing the residents burden during the relocation process, including support for rental costs, as well as provisions during the construction of upgraded road and drainage systems. The state will also implement flood mitigation measures to ensure residents long-term safety and comfort.
He said the Gombak District and Land Office (PDT) has held discussion with Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) regarding the development of more comfortable new homes, with affordable payment mechanisms for affected families.
“The process is expected to begin next month after the Thaipusam celebration, in consideration of festive preparations and to allow sufficient time for residents,” Amirudin said in a statement.
He added that PDT Gombak will coordinate the initiatives to ensure a smooth implementation process, prioritizing the long-term benefit to residents and improving infrastructure quality in the area.
Amirudin also chaired an engagement session with Kampung Indian Settlement residents and relevant agencies to explain the state government’s plans clearly and transparently, while also gathering feedback before the project progresses. He emphasised that the consultation process is crucial to avoid any misunderstanding or perception that the initiative is racially motivated or oppressive.

He explained that the area needs to be redeveloped in a more organised and structured manner, as several houses were previously built on road reserves, which poses legal and infrastructural challenges. Without intervention, residents could face issues such as inadequate road access, complication in land ownership transfers and increased floor risks.
“The area currently lacks road buffers and basic drainage systems which are critically in preventing rainwater accumulation,” he added.
The Selangor government reiterated that the initiative is guided by people-centric values, assuring that residents welfare remains a key priority as the state undertakes development efforts intended to improve safety, infrastructure and living standards in Gombak.
