The Social Security Organisation PERKESO (Socso) has announced that all benefit applications will be fully digital starting January 1, 2026, marking a major step towards streamlining social security services in Malaysia.

Human Resources Minister, Dato Seri R. Ramanan said the move will allow contributors to apply for PERKESO benefits online using mobile phones or computers, eliminating the need for physical visits to PERKESO offices.

The online system will cover benefits under four key legislations:

  • Employees’ Social Security Act 1969
  • Self-Employment Social Security Act 2017
  • Employment Insurance System Act 2017
  • Housewives’ Social Security Act 2022

According to the minister, the initiative is aimed at improving accessibility and convenience for workers nationwide, particularly those who face challenges travelling to PERKESO offices. Benefits that can be applied online include temporary and permanent disablement benefits, invalidity pensions, dependents’ benefits, survivors’ pensions and compensation for occupational diseases.

PERKESO has also announced an 80% reduction in penalty charges for employers with late contribution payments. Employers who settle outstanding payments by February 2026 will be eligible for the discount which is expected to benefit nearly 300,000 employers.

PERKESO also working on a new protection schemes including a proposed Traveller Scheme for Malaysians who commute daily between Johor and Singapore, as well as a 24-hour accident coverage plan that may be introduced in the coming year.
