The Penang state government has channelled RM80,000 to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Ramakrishna as part of it’s ongoing efforts to strengthen teaching and learning facilities and create a more conductive school environment.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the allocation reflects the state government’s commitment to ensuring equal access to quality education for all students, including those in vernacular schools. The school currently has 339 students. Of the total amount, RM50,000 was approved in December last year and has already been credited to the school for the construction of two additional classrooms, which are currently under construction.

“In conjunction with the Ponggal celebration, I am pleased to announce an additional allocation of RM30,000. I hope this contribution will benefit both students and teachers by providing a better learning environment,” Chow said.
He was speaking at a cheque presentation ceremony held alongside the school’s Ponggal celebration, which was attended by Jelutong Member of Parliament R.S.N Rayer, and the school’s headmistress, A.Vasagi Devi.
Strengthening Vernacular Education
Chow said the state government remains committed to supporting a holistic, inclusive and quality education agenda, including ensuring that vernacular schools continue to remain relevant and competitive.
He added that recent allocations announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for Tamil and Chinese national-type schools reflect the federal government’s concern for the development of a multi-stream education system in the country.
“As a plural society, celebrations such as Ponggal are important platforms to strengthen understanding, tolerance and mutual respect among Malaysians of different backgrounds,” he said.
Classroom Project Nearing Completion

Meanwhile, the school’s classroom construction project manager, K. Kumarathiraviam, said the application to build additional learning facilities was submitted to the state government two years ago and has now come to fruition. He said construction work began on 6th September last year and is currently more than 70 per cent complete, with the project expected to be completed within the next two months.
