The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) has officially been placed under the Ministry of Human Resources, following Cabinet approval, Minister of Human Resources Dato’ R Ramanan announced.

Previously operating under the Prime Minister’s Department, MITRA related matters were largely overseen by ministers or deputy ministers from the Indian community. With the administrative shift, MITRA will now function directly under the Human Resources Ministry to strengthen coordination, implementation and monitoring of programmes aimed at uplifting the Indian community.
Dato’ R Ramanan emphasised that transparency will be a key priority moving forward. He said all programmes, applications and recipient information under MITRA will be published on the unit’s official website to ensure public accountability and openness.
Meanwhile, under the Dharma MADANI programme, financial assistance totalling RM3.1 million has been distributed to 155 Hindu temples nationwide in the first phase of the initiative. Each temple received RM20,000 in financial aid.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier announced that the Dharma MADANI programme will allocate a total of RM20 million to support 1,000 registered Hindu temples across the country, with the current disbursement marking the initial rollout.
Temple management committees can now register and apply for the financial assistance through MITRA’s official website, as further phases of the programme are expected to be implemented in stages.
