At an age when most children are still learning to spell, five-year-old Heyra Jeganath has already etched her name into the Malaysia Book of Records as the nation’s youngest author. Heyra achieved the milestone in December 2025 with the publication of her debut children’s book, Heyra, The Big Sister. The recognition marks a significant moment not only for her family but also for young creative minds in Malaysia.

Heyra’s journey into writing began when her mother was pregnant with her younger sister. After her sister’s birth, when their mother was hospitalized, the separation proved emotionally challenging for Heyra. During this difficult time, Heyra started to express her thoughts and feelings through storytelling, sharing her experiences, emotions, and imaginative reflections as an older sibling.

Heyra’s mother never hesitated to recognize her daughter’s creativity and sincerity. She decided to document the stories narrated by Heyra. What started as a simple effort to preserve memories soon evolved into something more meaningful.

The result was the first book, Heyra, The Big Sister, a children’s story book which is inspired by real-life emotions of love and sibling bonding. The book was officially completed and published on Heyra’s fifth birthday, December 5, 2025. In a surprise moment, the celebration become double happiness where she was honoured by the Malaysia Book of Records as the youngest author in our nation.

According to her parents, Heyra’s interest in storytelling was evident from an early age. She often created stories through words and drawings, expressing emotions well beyond her years. While the family actively supported her creativity, they ensured that the process remained pressure-free, allowing Heyra to learn and create at her own pace.

Despite her historic achievement, Heyra’s family remains grounded, viewing the milestone not as an endpoint but as encouragement for her creative journey. Plans are already underway to support her interest in writing, with more stories expected in the future.

Heyra’s story serves as a reminder that talent can emerge at any age and with the right encouragement, even the youngest voices can leave a lasting mark.
