One of Penang’s oldest schools, SJK (T) Rajaji, which has long faced shortages in space and facilities, has reached a major milestone in 2026. The ceremony for the school’s new building was successfully held under the leadership of the Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow.
The new campus will be built on 2.638 acres of land in the Ayer Hitam area, and it will have ample space and basic facilities for students. Many notable guests attended the ceremony, including members of the Penang State Executive Council, Parliament members, local councilors, school board members, parents, teachers, and students.

During the event, Dato’ Sri Sundaraju Somu, a state leader and head of the Tamil school committee, expressed pride in the smooth conduct of the ceremony and welcomed the progress.
In the past, the school had problems like water leakage in its old buildings. To fix these issues and improve safety and comfort for students, the state government previously allocated RM100,000 in funding. Now with land secured for the new building, these challenges are expected to be fully resolved.

The new building will be constructed free of charge by IDEAL Group under its CSR initiative, and it’s expected to be completed within the next two years with modern facilities. Leaders also said that this project reflects the Penang state government’s commitment to the advancement of Tamil schools and the education of students.
