The government has announced a 50% discount on toll charges nationwide in conjunction with Chinese New Year, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. The decision, which has received Cabinet approval, is expected to cost the government RM19.5 million in compensation to toll concessionaires.
Discount Period and Eligible Vehicles
The toll discount will take effect from 12:01AM on 14th February and end at 11:59PM on 15th February. It will apply only to Class 1 private vehicles, offering relief to motorist planning festive travel during the holiday period.
Border Toll Plazas Excluded
The discount will not apply at the country’s border toll plazas, namely the Sultan Iskandar Building and Tanjung Kupang toll plazas. All other toll highways nationwide will be included in the initiative.
Aimed at Reducing Travel Costs and Congestion
According to Nanta, the toll discount is intended to help Malaysians cut down travel expenses when returning to their hometowns for Chinese New Year or travelling ahead of Ramadan. He added that the selected dates were carefully chosen to avoid peak congestion periods, while allowing highway operators to better coordinate logistics and facilities at rest and service areas (R&Rs).

Motorist Urged to Plan Ahead
Highway users are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and make use of travel-planning tools such as the MyPLUS-TTA application and the LLM TuJu Highway Navigation App to ensure smoother travel.
Safety Reminder for Road Users
Motorist have also been reminded to comply with speed limits, road signage, and traffic updates, and to exercise extra caution when using Smart Lanes. Real-time traffic updates are available via the Malaysian Highway Authority’s official social media platforms or through it’s traffic management centre.
