Malaysia’s women’s singles shuttler Letshana Karupathevan’s campaign at the German Open came to an early end after a challenging opening-round match against Japan’s rising star, Tomoka Miyazaki.
Competing in the BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament, Letshana faced a formidable opponent in Miyazaki, who started strong. The Japanese shuttler convincingly won the first game, 21-9. While Letshana showed resilience in the second game, scoring 15-21, she ultimately fell in the third game, where Miyazaki triumphed 21-11.

Despite the defeat, this match provided Letshana with valuable experience against high-caliber international competition. The German Open was challenging overall for Malaysia’s singles shuttlers, as many faced early exits. In contrast, three Malaysian doubles pairs advanced to the last 16, offering some positive news for the nation.
For Letshana, this setback in Germany is part of her learning process as she continues to challenge herself against top-tier opponents. Having previously demonstrated promising performances in higher-level tournaments, Letshana remains one of Malaysia’s most promising women’s singles players.
