In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8th, the Miss Malaysia Indian Care Association (MMICare) is set to host a charity screening of the movie Thaai Kizhavi, with the goal of raising funds for their Kapar Free Tuition Programme. This initiative not only highlights the power of community engagement but also emphasizes the important role of women in creating positive change.
What is the MMICare Association?
Founded in June 2002 by Dr Mohanaapriya Sina Raja , the MMICare Association is a registered independent volunteer organization in Malaysia dedicated to empowering women and supporting those in need. Known officially as the Miss Malaysia India Care Association (Persatuan Prihatin Ratu Malaysia India), this not-for-profit organization operates two significant programs: Miss Malaysian Indian Global (MMIG) and Gift for Her Life. These initiatives serve as vital fundraising programmes for the association’s broader goals, significantly expanding their reach in the fields of education and health.

The association’s impact is further amplified through its membership in regional networks like the Asia Pacific Universities Community Engagement Network (APUCEN), and its affiliation with the National Council of Women Organisations Malaysia (NCWO). Additionally, MMICare collaborates with the National Cancer Society of Malaysia and the Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies (CEMACS-USM), showcasing their commitment to community outreach and engagement.
Kapar Free Tuition Programme for Children
At the heart of MMICare’s mission is the Kapar Free Tuition Programme, launched in 2017 to provide free education to children, particularly those in underprivileged communities. This program aims to ensure that students receive the academic support they need, guiding them through to their Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran (SPM) examination. Over the years, many children in the program have achieved outstanding results, a testament to the effectiveness of this initiative in transforming lives.
