Navendran Krishnan has made history by climbing Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in Southeast Asia, while wearing a Veshti, a traditional outfit for Indian men. This achievement was officially recognized by the Malaysian Book of Records on March 6, 2026.
At 42 years old, Navendran is a mountain enthusiast who embraces the challenge of climbing at every opportunity. He began his hiking journey as a hobby at the age of 40, often hiking solo.

In November 2025, he completed the Annapurna Base Camp trek in Nepal dressed in traditional attire. Inspired by this experience, he decided to attempt climbing Mount Kinabalu in Indian traditional clothing. He received encouragement from his mother, wife, and sister, which gave him the confidence to pursue this goal.
Carrying a portrait of his late father, Mr. Krishnan, attached to his bag, Navendran proudly wore his Veshti and started his trail on February 22, 2026. He reached the Mount Kinabalu summit on February 23, 2026.

Navendran’s achievement serves as an inspiring reminder that it’s never too late to pursue new challenges and that embracing one’s cultural heritage can be a source of strength and motivation. His story encourages others to break barriers and celebrate their roots while exploring the wonders of the world.
