As Malaysians prepare to return for the holidays, a significant surge in traffic is expected in major highways, with an estimated of 3.03 Million vehicles set to travel through the Kuala Lumpur-Karak (KLK) Expressway and the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1). The increase will take place over the 12-day period from 18th March to 29th March, marking one of the busiest travel of the year.
According to Datuk Razali Kassim, the Chairman of Pahang Public Works, Transport and Health Committee, KLK Expressway is projected to carry bulk traffics with 2.1 Million vehicles, while approximately 934,000 vehicles are expected on the LPT1. Daily traffic is estimated to average of 78,000 vehicles, with the highest volume anticipated on 28th March, when up to 106,000 vehicles are expected to be on the road.
The rise in traffic highlights the importance of road safety, especially when it’s the festive season, and long-distance travel becomes more frequent. Datuk Razali urged all users to remain vigilant, and follow the traffic regulations, while prioritizing safety to ensure a smooth journey.
In addressing safety concerns, authorities have identified 38 accidents in the hotspots along the routes, with 22 high risk congestion zones across Pahang. These areas are expected to experience heavier traffic flow and will be monitored through the festive period.
With millions expected to travel, motorist are advised to plan their journey ahead, stay updated on traffic conditions, and have patience as they make their way home to celebrate the festive season. Those who wants to plan ahead, can monitor the traffic by the MyPLUS-TTA app, X account plustrafik or LLM gov website.
