The Ministry of Education has announced that schools may be temporarily closed if temperatures reach dangerous levels, as the country continues to face prolonged heat waves.
Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh stated that closures can be implemented if temperatures exceed 37°C for three consecutive days, in line with guidelines introduced in 2023. This move aims to protect students’ health and ensure a safer environment during extreme heat conditions.

In addition to potential closures, schools are required to suspend all outdoor activities if temperatures remain between 35°C and 37°C for three straight days. This includes sports, camping, and other physically demanding activities conducted outside the classroom. The ministry has instructed school administrators nationwide to monitor daily temperature levels and take necessary action when needed.
Authorities acknowledge that rising temperatures remain a challenge, but schools and state education departments are equipped to manage the situation effectively. With the new school year starting soon after the Raya holidays, the ministry has advised school management and teachers to monitor temperature levels accordingly.
