Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh has provided reassurance regarding the implementation of Home-Based Online Learning during the current hot weather conditions, stating that it will not negatively impact students’ learning experiences. He emphasized that this mode of education is familiar to both students and teachers, having been a standard practice since the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his remarks, the Deputy Minister highlighted that, with the right approaches, home-based online education can be as effective as traditional classroom learning. He underscored the necessity of prioritizing the health and welfare of students, particularly during extreme weather conditions.

To ensure the effeciency of online learning, the Deputy Minister confirmed that appropriate measures and guidelines are in place to support both students and educators in this transition. He noted that, as of now, the ministry has not recorded any incidents of heatstroke among students related to the current weather conditions.
In response to the rising temperature, the Kedah state government has taken proactive steps by implementing home-based learning specifically for schools located in the Kota Setar and Penang districts. This decision was triggered by the temperatures reaching a level 2 alert, indicating a significant health risk.
As a result, a total of 206 schools across these districts will shift to home-based online learning for a duration of three days, commencing on Sunday, March 29, 2026. This initiative aims to safeguard students while maintaining educational continuity during the extreme heat.
