Singapore is set to welcome its first new Hindu temple in Yishun in nearly two decades, marking a significant milestone for the local community. The Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth has announced that the construction of the Sree Guruvayoorappan Ayyappan Temple, located on Yishun Avenue 3, is scheduled to start in September 2026. This long-anticipated project is expected to take approximately three years to complete.
The last Hindu temple constructed in Singapore was the Arulmigu Velmurugan Gnanamuneeswarar Temple in Sengkang, which was built in 2006. The upcoming Sree Guruvayoorappan Ayyappan Temple will not only serve as a place of worship but will also have multi-purpose facilities, including a hall and various event spaces. These spaces are designed to host cultural, educational, and social outreach programs aimed at benefiting the community at large.

Former Member of Parliament R. Ravindran will take the role as the leader of the temple’s board of trustees, overseeing the development of this temple project. Dinesh Vasu Dash, Singapore’s Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth, expressed excitement over this development, describing it as a celebratory moment for everyone involved. After two decades, the establishment of a new Hindu temple is a testament to the growing diversity and inclusivity of Singapore’s cultural landscape.
The Sree Guruvayoorappan Ayyappan Temple will be particularly notable as it will be the first Hindu temple in Singapore dedicated to the deities Swamy Ayyappan and Sree Guruvayoorappan. Once completed, it will provide Ayyappan devotees with a dedicated space to visit as a starting point for their annual pilgrimages, enriching their spiritual journeys and fostering a sense of community among worshippers.
