Government services all over Malaysia will continue to operate as usual following the implementation of WFH policy for federal civil servants, which affected starting yesterday 15th April 2026.
Despite the reduced staff presence in office, and essential services, specifically counter transactions, will remain fully functional nationwide. Facilities such as the Urban Transformation Centres continues providing important services, including the Immigration Department of Malaysia and the police.
The impact of the policy is visibly noticeable, In Putrajaya, Malaysia’s administrative capital, as fewer people in government buildings as many officers work remotely. Most premises are operating in a low-power mode with reduced life usage and dim lights, reflecting the effort to conserve energy with the global concerns.
Civil Servants have adapted to the new arraignment quickly. According to Azlina Suliman, from Accountant General’s Department Malaysia, structured workflows and digital systems to ensure productivity remains consistent. She said that officers are required to log their tasks, check in regularly online and use secure system like virtual private networks (VPNs) so that tasks continue with no disruption.
The WFH policy is governments strategy in response to the global energy crisis linked to the issues in Middle East. this applies to federal servants in major areas like KL, Selangor, Putrajaya, and state capitals, especially those who lives more than 8KM away. But this policy does not apply to other sectors like security, defense, healthcare and education.
