Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit’s (MITRA) Dharma Madani initiative has entered its second phase, with RM6 million being distributed to Hindu temples across the country as part of a larger RM20 million allocation. Under this phase, additional temples are receiving funding to carry out approved community-focused programmes, following the initial rollout that began earlier this year.
The first phase of the Dharma Madani initiative began in January 2026, when MITRA started approving applications and distributing the initial funds to eligible Hindu temples. In that phase, about 155 temples received around RM3.1 million in total before the distribution moved on to the next phase.

MITRA Director-General Raveendran Nair stated that the funding is intended to strengthen temples as community hubs, particularly by supporting youth development centres that offer cultural classes such as Thevaram, Bharatanatyam, Silambam and other traditional arts.
He emphasised that the allocation is not meant for infrastructure development, but rather for programmes that nurture education, culture, and community growth among the younger generation.
The Dharma Madani initiative was first announced in August 2025 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with a total allocation of RM20 million for 1,000 Hindu temples nationwide, each receiving RM20,000. The programme is part of the government’s effort to empower grassroots institutions under the Malaysia Madani framework, promoting social upliftment and community engagement through religious institutions.
