Persatuan Penganut Sri Akni Muniswarar, Permatang Tinggi marked a significant step by officially securing a 99-year land lease for a Shivan Temple in Seberang Perai, ensuring long-term stability and legal ownership. The temple was previously situated on state-owned land without formal ownership status.
Last year, the temple committee raised this issue to Dato’ Sundarajoo Somu, Penang State Executive Council (EXCO), where they appealed for the land to be granted to safeguard the temple’s future. Dato’ Sundarajoo Somu took the matter forward by initiating discussions and submitting a proposal to the Chief Minister.

Despite the land’s higher market value, the state government approved the transfer at a nominal price of RM1,000 as a gesture of support for the community. In that matter, Dato’ Sundarajoo expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister and other state EXCO members for their contribution in resolving this issue.
The approval grants the temple a 99-year lease from 2026 to 2125, providing official and secure ownership. The land title was formally handed over to the temple’s committee, symbolising the state’s recognition and commitment to supporting religious institutions.

In addition to the land approval, plans are also underway to develop a dedicated site for Kirigai rituals near a nearby river, taking advantage of the temple’s strategic location. This initiative aligns with the Penang2030 vision, which includes the development of similar ritual sites across five districts in the state.
Till now, Dato’ Sundarajoo Somu has helped to facilitate legal land ownership for 27 temples across Penang. The initiative is part of a broader effort to preserve the welfare, harmony, and sustainability of places of worship for all communities in the state.
