35 Malaysian Students Head to China Under MITRA-Funded TVET Programme

35 Malaysian students departed to China under the Malaysia-China Youth TVET Training (MCYTT) 2.0 programme on 17th May 2026. Where they will be having specialised training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Technical Mechanical fields.

The students are the first batch which was selected under this programme, marking the official launch of the latest edition of the international Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) mobility initiative.

According to MITRA, the event kicked off at Tune Hotel KLIA Aeropolis before the students were departed on two separate flights.

The programme is fully funded by MITRA which is now under the Human Resources Ministry, received an allocation of RM2.9 Million under the 2025 Budget.

The initiative is organized by the National Skilled Workers Organisation (Belia Mahir) together with TANG International Education Group, while the Malaysian Indian Youth Council (MIYC) as a strategic partner.

MITRA director-general Raveendran Nair said the programme is a opportunity for Malaysian youths to gain exposure to advanced technology and global industries.

“China is now far ahead in the technology and AI sectors. The electric vehicle industry there is also growing rapidly,” he said.

He also encouraged students to make use of the opportunity given to gain knowledge, valuable experience and strong motivation before coming back.

Registration for MCYTT 2.0 took place from 3rd February to 28th February, and received overwhelming response with 907 application submitted. However 500 applicants met the strict selection criteria and were chosen for the programme.

The priority was given to B40 and M40 background students who studies in public and private higher education institutions as well as skills training centres.

The programme is to give Malaysian youths a exposure to international work cultures, the advanced ecosystem and modern skill training system. The remaining participants will be sent to China in stages for training in terms of sectors, which includes EV technology, automation, and robotics, logistic, automotive engineering and electronic.
