The closing ceremony of KL Festival took place at Dataran Merdeka, bringing the city-wide arts and culture celebration to a memorable conclusion. The event also marked the official launch of the Asian Music Games Kuala Lumpur 2026.
The evening featured a wide range of performances that showcased Malaysia’s multicultural identity. Traditional and contemporary acts entertained the crowd, providing a fitting finale to the festival, which had transformed the historic heart of Kuala Lumpur into a lively hub of cultural and community activities.
Speaking during the ceremony, Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh highlighted the importance of preserving the nation’s heritage while ensuring that historic public spaces continue to serve the community. She noted that substantial efforts have been made to restore and maintain heritage buildings around Dataran Merdeka, including the Sultan Abdul Samad Building.

However, Hannah Yeoh stressed that preserving heritage is not only about maintaining buildings but also about encouraging people to gather, participate, and create meaningful experiences within these spaces. She expressed appreciation to performers, organisers, sponsors, and members of the public whose contributions helped bring Dataran Merdeka to life throughout the festival.
The successful conclusion of KL Festival 2026 and the launch of the Asian Music Games Kuala Lumpur 2026 underscored Kuala Lumpur’s growing role as a centre for cultural exchange, artistic expression, and community engagement, while reinforcing the importance of keeping its historic landmarks vibrant and relevant for future generations.
