Savitha Shri B achieved a major milestone in her career after winning the Women’s title at the Asian Individual Chess Championship. The 19-year-old International Master from India, emerged victorious after intense competition, becoming the 2026 Asian Women’s Chess Champion.
Asian Individual Chess Championship 2026
The Asian Individual Chess Championship was held at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on June 6, 2026. This marked the first time Mongolia has hosted a top-tier Asian chess tournament. Held in both the Open and Women’s sections, the competition featured an impressive field of 34 Grandmasters, 12 Women’s Grandmasters, 51 International Masters, 20 Women International Masters, 49 FIDE Masters, and 18 Candidate Masters representing 30 countries.

19-year-old Savitha tops Women’s section
Savitha finished the tournament with an impressive score of 7.5 points from nine rounds. She was tied with Uzbekistan’s Afruza Khamdamova at the top of the standings, but secured the championship through the tournament’s tiebreak system, which favoured players who faced stronger opponents throughout the event. China’s Song Yuxin claimed third place.

The victory marks the biggest achievement of Savitha’s chess career so far. In addition to winning the continental title, she also earned qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, further cementing her status as one of India’s rising chess stars.
The triumph also delivered India’s 13th Women’s Asian Championship title, highlighting the country’s continued success on the international chess stage.
