From Festive Fashion to Everyday Elegance: How BIBA Is Winning Over Malaysia’s Multiracial Wardrobes

BIBA, a well-known name in India’s fashion industry for nearly four decades, is now expanding its brand presence across the country with numerous stores featuring its premium ethnic clothing, flowing kurtas, and modern Indian styles, primarily aimed at Indian women.

Versatile Choices, Casual Wear Concept

About a year ago, BIBA launched its first store in Malaysia, where it is attracting a diverse customer base that includes not only Indians but also Malays and Chinese looking for Indian-inspired pieces. These garments are versatile enough to be worn for office settings and weekend outings, rather than being reserved solely for Indian weddings and Deepavali celebrations.

BIBA has quickly expanded in Malaysia, opening three outlets in one year under franchise owners Buelah Subramaniam and Krishsubashini Govindasamy. They aim to introduce contemporary Indian fashion to a broader audience, believing it can appeal to women beyond just special occasions.

“Many people still think Indian fashion is only for weddings or festivals, and we want to change that. We attract Indian, Malay, and Chinese customers looking for work-appropriate pieces,” they stated. Krishsubashini was inspired after years of shopping at BIBA in India, seeing the potential for the brand’s modern designs to reach a wider audience. “Malaysia’s multicultural community is increasingly appreciative of Indian fashion. Many women simply love colourful, contemporary clothing,” she said. The founders leverage their strengths in business operations and customer service.

“Our partnership stems from our passion for entrepreneurship and the belief that fashion inspires confidence,” Buelah added. Their focus is on increasing BIBA’s brand presence in Malaysia and expanding to strategic locations. “We are proud to have opened three stores in our first year, but this is just the beginning. We aim to establish BIBA as a leading Indian fashion brand in Malaysia and make contemporary Indian wear accessible to all Malaysian women,” they concluded.

First Year Anniversary

BIBA’s three Malaysian outlets which are Brickfields, 1 Utama Shopping Centre and Klang are officially marking the brand’s first year anniversary. In conjunction with that, the stores are offering discounts up to 50% from July 10 to July 12, 2026, alongside a special Thank You Day and in-store activities.

The founders have expressed their gratitude to their customers for giving them a chance and for their loyalty. They are especially thankful for those who keep coming back. This Thank You Day is their way of celebrating these dedicated customers and commemorating this milestone.
