Indian badminton player P.V. Sindhu reached the semi-finals of the BWF Japan Open Super 750 after Japan’s former world champion Nozomi Okuhara withdrew before their quarter-final match.
The results brings Sindhu to her first Super 750 semi-finals since the 2023 Denmark Ope and marks her third semi-final appearance of the 2026 season.
A Strong Comeback Season
Sindhu’s game at the Japan Open continues her impressive comeback. She started the 2026 season as World No.18 but has risen world’s top 10. She is now ranked World No.9, showing the progress she has made over the last few months.
Next she will be facing China’s Chen Yufei, a former Olympic champion and current World No.4.
Chen reached the semi-finals with an easy 21-10, 21-12 win over South Korea’s Sim Yu Jin. This match will be tough for Sindhu. Chen leads head-to-head 8-6 and has won their last five matches.
If Sindhu wins, she will end the losing run and reach her first Super 750 final in nearly three years. With her confidence growing and her form getting better this season, the semi-final is another chance for Sindhu to show she is back among the world’s best players.
