Deepavali– the festival of Lights is the time we are in our finest clothes and illuminate the interior and exterior of our homes with lamps and rangoli, offer pooja to Goddess Laksmi (the goddess of prosperity and wealth), light fireworks and partake in family feast. Festivities are an opportunity for all family members to come together and strengthen their bonds with joyful experiences.

This year with the global pandemic and the CMCO enforcement, our spirits have been dampened with the cancellation of Deepavali bazaars and a somber mood has been hovering in the air at the main shopping areas of Brickfields and Klang.

Nevertheless, Deepavali is just around the corner and most of us would have started the preparations and the first order is usually SHOPPING! So where do you go for some nice fashionable outfit, unique and affordable at the same time?

Fret not… Fabindia Malaysia is the place to go to for your shopping needs this Deepavali!

It’s a one-stop shopping place for the whole family.

Fabindia is India’s largest private platform for products that are made from traditional techniques, skills and hand-based processes. The textile-based product range includes ready-to-wear garments and accessories for men, women, teenagers and children.

The Story that beholds this 60-year-old Brand

Founded in 1960 by John Bissell to market the diverse craft traditions of India, Fabindia started out as a home furnishings export company.

John Bissell had a vision for the company that placed equitable relationships at the centre of the business model he chose for Fabindia.

While ‘sustainable relationships’ is quite the modern mantra today, at the time the company came into being, this approach was viewed as ‘radical’ and perhaps too idealistic for the business of business.

Fabindia 60 years ago

The first Fabindia retail store was opened in Greater Kailash, New Delhi in 1976 and is still one of our flagship stores. By the early eighties, a Fabindia was already known for garments made from handwoven and hand-printed fabrics.

The non-textile range was added in 2000, while organic foods, which formed a natural extension of Fabindia’s commitment to traditional techniques and skills was added in 2004, with personal care products following in 2006. Handcrafted jewellery was introduced in 2008.

Fabindia In The Current Market

Today, with a pan-India presence, Fabindia is the largest private platform for products that derive from traditional crafts and knowledge. A large proportion of these is sourced from villages across India where the company works closely with the artisans, providing various inputs including design, quality control, access to finance and raw materials. Encouraging good craftsmanship and supporting the communities that continue such traditions are central to Fabindia’s philosophy.

Fabindia’s endeavour is to bring customers a choice of products – and lifestyle – that offers an alternative to the mass-produced while creating sustainable livelihoods in the rural sector.

Today, Fabindia has 211 retail stores across India, 2 stores in Singapore & Dubai and Malaysia and 1 store each in Italy, Nepal and Mauritius.

Fabindia in Malaysia

Fabindia Malaysia is a franchise of Fabindia and opened its doors in Malaysia in 2015, with the first store in Nu Sentral Mall. Being a fan of the Fabindia brand, I personally was in awe when I shopped at the Nu Sentral boutique. It fell so surreal as the layout was a mirror image of the ones in India and the quality of the product was outstanding.

I still get complimented when I wear the Fabindia outfits which I bought 5 years ago and by far its one of the most comfortable and long-lasting ones. The quality is simply impeccable.

Early this year, the second outlet was opened in Masjid India.

This is a stand-alone store and during these trying times, with the rise in Covid-19 cases in malls around the city, shopping at the Masjid India outlet could be a safer option.

Fabindia Malaysia franchise owners mentioned that despite the shipment issues due to the lockdown in India, they decided to bear the additional cost of the Air Cargo and paid 50% more on shipment fees to enable the shipment to arrive on time for Deepavali.

So, you are going to be spoilt for choices with all the latest festive arrivals at BOTH the Fabindia outlets in Kuala Lumpur.

Fabindia Malaysia as the name suggests offers fabulous attires and products from India, redefining ethnic India with beautiful and attractive colours which bring joy and contentment to the eyes.
