We’re just a few days away from the highly anticipated Mani Ratnam gangster drama, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. While Mani Ratnam is known for making dense romance dramas (often intertwining with politics), it is his gangster movies like Nayakan and Thalapathi that really shook the landscape of South Indian cinema and has now become timeless classics. To see Mani Ratnam, at this age, revisit this genre after close to three decades is akin to seeing Martin Scorsese helm The Irishman.
While the first trailer is highly enticing, the equally enticing second trailer (as seen above) focuses more on the dynamics between the siblings. The four siblings will be played by Arvind Swamy, Arun Vijay, Vijay Sethupathi and Silambarasan. The film also stars Jyothika, Prakash Raj and many more.
Chekka Chivantha Vaanam will be lensed by Santosh Sivan who previously worked with Mani Ratnam on Thalapathi, Raavan and Raavanan. Oscar-winning A.R. Rahman will be the film’s musical composer.
