Kavadi’s will not be permitted at this year’s Thaipusam celebration in Batu Caves Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple. The decision came after the devotees were found to have failed to observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) which were set by the authorities, last Sunday.
Despite the strict guidelines and rules for Thaipusam 2022 that were released by temple authorities, something else, just as dire, flew under the radar. A few pictures and videos which have been leaked on social media platforms in regards to the Kavadi procession are making Malaysians worry about the ongoing Covid-19 and new variants in the country that is spreading sporadically.
Earlier, Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainal Mohamed slapped a fine against KL Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Dhevasthanam management as they failed to comply with SOP’s to curb the spread of Covid-19.
SELF-REMINDER:
To prevent unnecessary overcrowding, those carrying paal kudam (milk pot kavadi) in the groups specified have been told to offer their prayers and exit the cave immediately. Additionally, those who intend to walk with the chariot while carrying their milk pot kavadi must register in advance to receive their tags.
Please adhere to the SOPs and guidelines in order to have a smooth Thaipusam celebration.
