We Love Badminton…That’s Our Sport ~Veno&Kasturi
The pair of siblings, R Kasturi -R Venosha who are the national women’s badminton doubles continue to create a sensation by winning Bronze in the RSL LITHUANIAN INTERNATIONAL 2022 that took place at Panevezys, Lithuania from 9th to 12th June 2022.
Congratulations Girls…!!!
Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Kasturi and Venosha started to play badminton at the age of 7 and 6 respectively and have now become one of the top badminton players in Malaysia.
Recently, these sisters who train under the New Vision Badminton Academy has shared their experience that they had during their first ever Europe tournament with Varnam MY.
“Our experience playing in Europe for the very first time was indeed very tiring. Because we had to travel a very good long distance along with flight delays. To be honest, travelling independently isn’t easy in the least. We left Malaysia on the night of 6th June and reached Lithuania only at midnight 7th June. And we only had a day rest as our matches started on 9th June,” R Kasturi said.
We will go for it. No matter how it ends, it was an experience.
They were the primary seeds for that tournament due to their world ranking as they were ranked 119 within the women doubles category. Both of them had participated in both singles and doubles. Unfortunately, Venosha had an early knockout in singles but Kasturi was within the last 32 for singles.
During a chat with Varnam, Venosha and Kasturi expressed the struggles that they faced during their Europe tournament.
These siblings had a great deal of time adjusting to the weather conditions. They had to do so as it would affect their game. If the weather is cold, it would take them longer than usual to warm up and get ready for their game. They also had to get used to a new set of western diet rather than the usual Asian diet made up of rice and dishes.
“All the shops and restaurants in Europe will usually close around 8 or 9pm. Sometimes we would finish our matches late night and we were unable to get any food. The sole choice at that point was fast food,” the siblings added during the chat.
It seems crystal clear that the European lifestyle is slightly more different from that of the Asian lifestyle. But to be honest, these siblings had to adapt to that quickly.
When talking about the tournament, 20-year-old Venosha said they faced Europeans for the first two matches. The match seemed difficult for the both of them at the start because the game tactics, strokes and every bit was slightly different.
Hence, they had to sharpen their focus to know their tactics and fortunately, these siblings learnt it quickly and managed to head back in the right direction.
“In the semifinals, we tried our utmost best. But the opponents were slightly better than us. That made us realise our mistakes and what are the tactics we’d like to figure moving forward. So, we are determined to travel back to our academy, New Vision Badminton Academy and can work on our weaknesses,” they said.
Meanwhile, siblings Venosha and Kasturi convey their deepest gratitude to their supporters. They added that their success would not be possible without the help of their family, friends, coaches and also sponsors.
“We would like to thank our family and friends for always being there to support and push us all the high. Also, a big thanks to all our coaches. Without their guidance and help, we might not be capable to achieve this level too. Finally a big thanks to our sponsors who sponsored us till now,” they convey their appreciation with a heart full of gratitude.
When asked about their future plans, 21-year-old Kasturi said her one and only aim is to participate in the Olympics and become a top player around the world.
Meanwhile, Venosha wishes to enter the national team and represent Malaysia in major tournaments namely England Championships, Uber Cup, Commonwealth Games and lots more.
Wishing you both success in all your future endeavors’.
