Touching hearts and creating magic with his mellifluous voice, the ‘BGM King’ of Kollywood industry, Yuvan Shankar Raja returned to Malaysia entrancing music lovers at a sold-out concert bearing the title, YUVAN 25 – LIVE IN CONCERT KUALA LUMPUR!

You know he’s a legend as he churned out a string of hits from his music career spanning over 25 years, the philanthropist rocked the two-day concert and had the audience singing along in no time.

Purported to be the FIRST international concert of the year, everything about the FIRST DAY of “Yuvan 25 – Live In Concert Kuala Lumpur” which began at 7.45 pm and went on past 1 am was spectacularly surreal and fantastically futuristic.

Malik Streams; Perfectionist for a well-organised concert

Spearheaded by Malik Streams Corporation, the 6-hour live show was an ultimate success for the team. We look forward to more concerts in the future from this team.

An EPIC lineup of local artists

MALAYSIA is home to a strong music culture.

The opening act featured a cocktail of electrifying local artists such as the legendary Darkkey, Siddarth, Yunohoo, Santesh, Ifon, Havoc Brothers, DJ Mastermind and Sabesh Manmathan.

Rapping on the track Champion, IFON turned up the heat with their powerful rap vocals of the opening acts. A special shout out to their epic flow and raps, as the track was filled with top-notch furious lyrics and fast-spewing rhymes. These guys are prominent for being significant contributors to the rap and hip-hop industry.

Following that, Siddarth, the Prince of Melody took over the stage and proved his mettle with his remarkable song entitled, Nalla Pattu which got the audience singing to the chorus. As the lyrics denote, ‘Vaa Aruginile Kanavinile Thinam Thiname’ his singing magic had left the audience spellbound.

Legendary Darkkey is a name that needs no introduction in the Malaysian music industry. The show stealer who upped the excitement quotient with his ultimate song aptly titled, ‘Akka Makke’ set the stage on fire with his iconic moves at the live concert. Cheers erupted in the auditorium, where most of the enthusiastic fans danced and sang along with Darkey’s famous tune. We heard some of them seated at the VIP arena were doing the head bang too … now that’s what this legend is capable of.

The moment Havoc Brothers came up on stage, thunderous applause was heard. From singing their utmost famous song ‘Karat’, Mathan and Naveen set the stage on fire by performing the song along with their dancers.

Next, we had the dominant figure in Hip-Hop culture, Yunohoo and DJ Mastermind totally lit up the night and were a show stopper. The duo took the stage by storm with their performance and we danced along.

Whether it’s about setting the stage on fire with his groovy tracks or melting the audience’s heart with a soulful song, Santesh is the MAN who is best at both. A perfect echo came back from the crowd as Santesh sang Yaaro Evalo tune along with Sabesh Manmathan.

 Auditorium ROARED!

The lights went off. Pitch black with glows of light emitting one by one. The tension within the arena was tangible…Roars ignited from the crowd emphatically as the ‘BGM King’ appeared amidst the strobes of light illuminating him as he created magic on the keyboards.

That moment was SURREAL & SPECTACULAR!

What happened next was pure magic as Yuvan gave an instrumental medley of his biggest hits such as Mehrazaila (from the film Maanadu), Kattrukule (Sarvam), and many others. Each song of his was met with multi-coloured psychedelic lights flashing across the stage and carefully-timed fireworks going off stage.

Amidst heightened anticipation, the sound of the emotionally intense love song, ‘Idhu Kadhala’ (Thulluvadho Ilamai) came wafting through the auditorium and the crowd roaring in response signalled Yuvan’s performance on stage. A 90’s kid favourite!

The mould-breaking 42-year-old melody phenomenon made a vast crowd feel intimately involved in a show torn between delicious detail and arena shock-and-awe. His energy never wavered as he went on to serenade the near-capacity crowd with chart-toppers and fan favourites like ‘Loosu Penne’, ‘Katrukule Vaasam Pole’ and OF COURSE ‘Oru Naalil’ which was embraced by Yuvanisms.

Andrea Jeremiah stole the show

Andrea Jeremiah is not only an exceptional singer but a performer too. Hearing Andrea sing her chartbusters including Idhu Varai and Ek Dho Theen, she totally owned the stage – one couldn’t help but remain transfixed on her as she strutted around the stage. Her singing prowess, humour, and engagement with the audience made it an epic night!

The REST

The best part about this concert was about the outstanding troupe of vocalists such as Tanvi Shah, Srinisha, Diwakar, Premgi, Sathyaprakash, Shwetapandit, Priyanka, Vishnupriya, Ajay Krishna, Vijay Yesudas, Rahul Nambiar, Teejay, and Javeed Ali. Yuvan and his handpicked group of musicians delivered familiar classics with unexpected verve.

They were all on top of their game. Srinisha went to sing the incredibly romantic Manmadhane Nee (Manmadhan) and Javed Ali belted out Aedho Seigirai (Vamanan).

Premgi’s ‘Machi Open The Bottle’ was a standout, while Vijay Yesudas, Diwakar and Sathya Prakash’s songs were metaphorically ignited in our hearts. Not to forget the ever adorable ‘DD’ Neelakandan who made a special appearance in between of Yuvan-25 show for an in-game session.

Of course it wasn’t only about MUSIC!

Sivamani; The legendary percussionist made his cameo at Yuvan -25 and we must say that his performance really stood out!

Have you ever wondered that ‘Gallon Bottles’ can be used as a musical instrument ? Well, this man just proved that every single household items can be used as musical instruments.

Simbu’s special appearance on big screen

Actor Simbu, who was supposed to attend Yuvan -25 was unable to attend the show as his father, T. Rajendar is currently receiving medical treatment in America.  Intending to not disappoint his fans, the actor sent a special message to his Malaysian fans and also spoke briefly about his good friend Yuvan.

The crowd was INSANE

The live concert came with hundreds of possibilities – things that one cannot imagine with the actual soundtrack which we listen through our headphones – and Yuvan-25 captures all that. It was a show filled with eye and ear candy with many Instagrammable moments, and the enraptured crowd took advantage — hundreds of phones were aloft even during the quieter moments.

Mind-boggling extravagant stage production

The stage setup DESERVES a standing ovation as it was an exquisite spectacle. We were transcended into a whole other world for a few hours. From featuring a plethora of pyrotechnics, confetti, lasers, graphics on big screens and smoke fogs, the entire show mutated into something to behold.

After two years of hiatus brought on by pandemic, we have witnessed a mind-boggling show not to be regretted. With a career spanning 25 years, it has made Yuvan a showman of incredible heft. And which country is better than Malaysia to throw a glorious bash?
