Father’s Day, a meaningful occasion celebrated on the third Sunday of June, will take place on June 23rd in 2026. This special day serves as a heartfelt reminder for us to recognise and honor the love, unwavering guidance, and significant sacrifices that fathers make for their families.
Dr. Kumaran Adaikalam, the dedicated president of Sri Saradha Devi Illam, plays a vital role as a father figure to 54 young girls in his care.
Who is Dr Kumaran Adaikalam?
Dr. Kumaran was born in Rawang, Selangor. He is the second child of Mr. Adaikalam Muthusamy and Mrs. Sundari Gopal. He started his education at SJKT Rawang and then went to SMK Seri Garing for secondary school. After finishing school, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Edmonton University in 2014.
He later received a Grand Master’s degree in Reiki Healing from Divyajot Healing in India in 2016, focusing on Reiki, Pranic Healing, and Meditation. In 2017, he obtained a Master’s degree in Metaphysics from the Reiki Association of Malaysia.
In 2007, Dr. Kumaran began volunteering at Sri Saradha Devi Illam. This experience had a major impact on him as he saw the lives and challenges of the children living there. The love and care from the children inspired him to help shape their futures. In 2008, he became Honorary Secretary of the Persatuan Kebajikan Sri Saradha Devi Illam Malaysia and became President in 2012.
A Blessing Found in Uplifting Underprivileged Girls
Dr. Kumaran has shown his commitment to providing a safe home for the girls and helping them learn more than just academic subjects. One of his key achievements is making Sri Saradha Devi Illam the first welfare home in Malaysia to offer structured education at Diploma and Skills Certificate levels for the children it cares for.
“When children first come to Sri Saradha Devi Illam, many arrive carrying emotional wounds, insecurities, and a lack of confidence. Some have experienced circumstances that no child should ever have to endure. To be able to walk alongside them, support them, and gradually see them discover their own strength and self-worth has been one of the greatest blessings of my life”
As a father figure to all the girls, he celebrates each of their successes as his own. Every achievement and graduation accomplished by the girls fills his heart with immense pride and gratitude.
Education: Building a Stronger Future for Every Girl
Under Dr. Kumaran’s leadership, it is evident that education has not only built the girls’ futures but also enhanced their discipline and personality, enabling them to mingle with society in a well-behaved manner.
“For me, education is not limited to textbooks, examinations, and certificates. True education develops character, confidence, discipline, compassion, resilience, and the ability to serve society. That is why our approach has always been holistic,” said Dr. Kumaran Adaikalam.
Dr. Kumaran not only focuses on academic learning but also offers vocational training in Bharathanatyam, Silambam, Thirumurai, and yoga, which promote cultural education and spiritual values. He believes that this combination of training and academic education will help girls grow into well-rounded individuals who are intellectually skilled and culturally aware.
Many people view poverty simply as a lack of money, but Dr. Kumaran sees it as a lack of opportunities. When children from disadvantaged backgrounds are given opportunities, they often achieve remarkable things.
Dr. Kumaran’s Vision for the Girls’ Future
As a father figure to 54 girls, Dr. Kumaran takes immense pride in their development. He sees them growing into academically intelligent, culturally aware, and spiritually guided individuals. He hopes they will become women who embody confidence without arrogance, compassion without weakness, courage without fear, and success while remaining true to the values that have shaped them.
“Holy Mother Sri Saradha Devi taught us that true greatness lies in love, selflessness, and service to others. I hope these values remain deeply rooted in their hearts wherever life takes them. I want them to know that their beginnings do not define their destiny. Their circumstances may have shaped part of their story, but they do not determine how the story ends.”
Dr. Kumaran envisions a bright future for the girls, seeing them as potential teachers, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and more. He hopes they will become women who uplift others. If, one day, they can help those in need just as they received support from Dr. Kumaran, the cycle of transformation will continue.
A Father’s Day Message of Hope for Family and Community
Dr. Kumaran took this opportunity to express his hopes for both the family and the community. He emphasized that parents and their children need each other’s presence more than material possessions. According to him, the greatest gift a parent can offer is their love, support, and faith in their children’s abilities.
“This Father’s Day, I would like to remind everyone that every child deserves someone who believes in them. Children from underprivileged backgrounds do not need pity. They need opportunities, guidance, encouragement, and people who refuse to give up on them. If we can cultivate even a fraction of that universal motherhood and compassion, our communities will become stronger, kinder, and more united.”
Throughout his years of service to the girls, Dr. Kumaran has seen how a single act of kindness such as mentorship, scholarships, and additional support, can transform a young person’s life. The achievements of these girls reflect the belief, support, and education they received from those who invested in their futures.
Dr. Kumaran Adaikalam believes in important lessons from Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda. Sri Sarada Devi taught us to care for the world, and Swami Vivekananda encouraged us to find the strength inside ourselves. At the Sri Saradha Devi Illam, they follow these teachings.
For eighteen years, he has seen that when children get love, help, education, and chances to grow, they can do great things and inspire others.
Dr. Kumaran Adaikalam’s story shows us how important it is to care for children. They just need a little help and proper guidance.
